Graham Hurley came late to coastal rowing. Before that, he'd spent half his life making TV documentaries, and the rest writing novels, a mix of crime fiction and a WW2 series, The Spoils of War. Last Flight to Stalingrad was published in January to wide acclaim. He and his wife Lin still launch twice weekly with Exmouth Rowing Club’s Vulcaneers, a bunch of like-minded veterans pledged to laughter, good coffee, a variety of stickies, and serious distance.
